Mobile Mapping

Mobile GIS is mainly used to access spatial data and services through mobile devices.

The two major application areas are the Field based and the Location based services.

Field based GIS focuses on data collection, validation, updation etc.

Location based GIS focuses on business oriented location management functions.

Mobile GIS comprises the integration of four technologies:

• GIS
• Lightweight Hardware
• Global Positioning System (GPS)
• Wireless Communication

Integration of all these makes the enterprise database directly accessible to field-based personnel—anywhere, anytime.

GIS assists in zoning of the customer addresses, trial transmissions down city streets, pinpointing locations for repeater sites etc.
